 1.- What is SKULL BENCHMARK?
;

Skull Benchmark is a benchmarking program, that is, a program that gives you a
number (FPS) which represents the speed of your system. If you run this
program on different computers, you will see that the FPS rate will change
accordingly to the system speed, so you can use it to test or compare the speed
of some different computers. Remember that for comparing speeds you must
choose the same video mode on all the computers, so this mode must be supported
by all the SVGAs. The most standard SVGA mode is 640x480 256-colors, so
we recommend that you always use it. Note that the 320x200 256-colors
mode is not the VGA mode but a VESA SVGA one, so not all SVGAs can support it.
Remember also that with some drivers such as sci-tech's UniVBE, you could
get more available video modes.

This program is designed for testing the performance on Pentium or higher
systems, because of the large meshes, although it can run on slow systems such
as 486's, but at a terrible slow speed.

The factors that hardly affect to the FPS, that is, the speed of the program,
are:

   The speed of the CPU
   The speed of the VGA (SVGA)
   The size of the cache memory

The math co-processor is used, but it's not very relevant in the FPS.

 2.- What's New:
;

Ver 1.1:

    Now, 32-bit modes could be used as 24-bit ones (16 million colors).
    A list of different computer speeds measured with Skull Benchmark has been
     added to README.TXT file.

Ver 1.2:

    The DOS4GW stub has been replaced by PMODE/W, so you doesn't need the
     DOS4GW.EXE file anymore.
    Uncompressed size of the program has been reduced. This allows you to keep
     Skull Benchmark uncompressed in a floppy disk and easily do the testing on
     different computers.

 3.- Minimum Hardware Requirements:
;

  VESA SVGA
  486 processor
  8MB of RAM

 4.- Problem Solving:
;

If you have problems getting the program to run, try removing all memory
resident and memory-management software or starting MS-DOS with the F5 option.

If the problem persist, write us reporting the problem in the most detailed way
and we will try to solve it if possible.
