The computer-art colective "Pungas de Villa Martelli (PVM)" is proud to
introduce "Argentine Songbook Vol. 1" a Commodore 64 computer music album
with 8 bit renditions of argentinian music tracks in different genres.
In this album we propose a re-interpretation of our national music through
the use of technology considered obsolete, underground or plainly discarded
by todays system and technologic standards, that however set the foundation
for today's artistic trends.
Following the cutting edge manifesto of the Commodore 64's creator, Jack
Tramiel, who thought of "a computer for the masses, not the classes", we
believe that making a statement from the margins of tech in a global context
of consumerism of canned technology proposes an imaginary exercise in terms
of appropriation and technological sovereignity.
Aesthetically the album is signed by the SID 8580 chip's sound, which can be
considered as one of the first fully programmable synthesizers included in a
home computer way before the digital sound revolution.
The album can be loaded, listened to and watched on a real Commodore 64 or
128 computer, and also on an emulator on PC, Mac and other platforms.
There's also a youtube video available for ease of access at:

The credits for this release are given to CoMu and Uctumi for tracking the
c64 versions of the songs imprinting their vision, Riq for coding the
executable file in a real technical and creative prowess and Alakrán who
carefully crafted the vibrant graphics and animations on screen.
Thanks to the kind invitation of the argentine music group Turf, Uctumi
was able to play live his version of the song "Loco un poco" (A little bit
crazy) as a preview within the concert held by the group at the night club
La Trastienda in Buenos Aires on 14 December 2016.
The album's playtime is about 35 minutes and the file size of the executable
is only 42 kilobytes, that's about 0.042 megabytes, a ridiculous file size
for current computing standards.
