system or files. Always Make BACKUPS!!!!!

Ok - you have just purchased a CD ROM and you want to use it with
TriBBS.Let's go step by step and show you how to set it up to work
without using 3rd party software or a CD ROM Door!

   ***************************************************************************
   Step # 1.
First you must have your CDROM installed and configured per the
instructions that came with your CDROM.You should be able to do
a Directory of the CD you have in your CDROM.If you can't do
that then STOP here and go back and make sure everything is
   setup properly!
   ***************************************************************************
   Step # 2.
Now that you know how to get a Directory of your CD we want to print
out to your printer "ALL DIRECTORIES" on your CD.
I will Include a sample of a CD that I use.In all steps when required.
Here is a sample of my CD directory.
First My CD is now Drive I:\
When I do a "Dir I:" the Following info is displayed.
Volume in drive I is VGASPECTRUM
   Directory of I:\

   Animate <DIR> 08-16-91
   CLIPART <DIR> 08-16-91
   DEMO <DIR> 08-16-91
   and so on!!!!
   ***************************************************************************
   Step # 3.
Now that you have a Printout of your Directories. We want to "CD"
change Directories and see if there are any Subdirectories in each of
   the above
   examples.

   I:>
   CD Animate
   DIR
   FLI <DIR>
   GL <DIR>
   PLYR <DIR>
   etc...
Now we want to print out all subdirectories to your printer.
Ok - Now you should have all directories for your Entire CD on paper.
   ***************************************************************************
   Step # 4.
Now it starts getting a little complex but I will try and make it simple
   for you.

TriBBS needs a Files.LST to be able to read the data from.Beings your
CD doesn't have a files.lst we need to make one.I did this by making a
copy of my CD directory tree to my hard drive D:\.

You can use whatever drive you want.Go to the drive you choose and "MD"
Make Directories exactly as they are on your CD with their proper
Subdirectories beneath them.We are Not Transferring or copying any Files.

We are just Duplicating the directory of your CD.here is my example.
   D:
   MD Animate
   MD CLIPART
   MD DEMO
   etc...
Now I have made all the main directories as they appear on my CD.
Next I go to each directory and make the proper subdirectories.
   D:
   CD ANIMATE
   MD FLI
   MD GL
   MD PLYR
   etc....

Now you should have all the directories duplicated on the drive of
   your choice.
   ***************************************************************************
   Step # 5.

Ok now we have to get the Actual File names from the CD to your hard
drive! Now in my Directory structure,I:\animate is just a directory
with no files in it.I "CD" to I:\animate\fli.There is a directory
with all of the files. If I do a "DIR" of I:\animate\fli.The Files
will appear on my screen. We want those files to appear on our hard
drive. To accomplish this requires the following.

First we must go to the directories we made on out Hard Drive. In this
case we would go to D:\animate\fli.we would be at the following prompt.
   D:\Animate\Fli>

Next step is the most IMPORTANT!!!!!!!
at the prompt of D:\animate\fli we need to type the next line in " "
   D:\animate\fli "Dir I:\animate\fli > files.lst"
what the above line does is this.We are in the D:\animate\fli directory
and we do a directory of I:\animate\fli.The > redirects the output to
the D:\animate\fli directory with the file name of Files.lst.Instead
of seeing the direcory on your screen,we have just copied it to the
   proper directory.
   ********************IMPORTANT*************IMPORTANT************************
We must do that for each directory. So after we do the first we must CD
to the next directory and repeat "DIR (FULL PATHNAME from CD) > Files.lst"
   **************************************************************************
   Step # 6.
After you have done the above you should have a files.lst in each
directory on your hard drive. That is the duplicate directory of your CD.
   Example:
   I:\animate - no files just a main directory = D:\animate
   I:\animate\fli = D:\animate\fli
   I:\animate\gl = D:\animate\gl
   I:\animate\plyr = D:\animate\plyr

Each of those directories on D:\animate\Fli.D:\animate\gl,D:\animate\plyr
all have a Files.lst in them. Now after you have accomplished that.we have
   part of the battle won!

TriBBS file Descriptions are in the Manual and require a specific setup.
we must go to each directory on d: that we made and edit our Files.lst
   with you favorite Text editor.
   ***************************************************************************
   Step # 7.
Now we must edit our newly created files.lst so TriBBS can use them. The
files.lst requires a specific format!!!!!I will try and give you an example
   of that format.

All filenames MUST START A COLUMN 1!!!
   Tribbs.zip -ok
tribbs.zip no good - spaces in first 3 columns.

Next is the sized in bytes of the file.the last number in the file size
   MUST END at COLUMN 22!

Next is the date.in the format "12-07-92"The Number 1 in 12 must start at
COLUMN 25!and the 2 in 92 must END at Column 32!

Next is the File Decsription. It must START at Column 35 and wrap around,
when it wraps around the next line in the file description and each line
after MUST ALL START at COLUMN 35!!!

   here are some examples.
   Tnet0892.zip 1850 08-16-92 description
                                     next line of description
                                     next line of description
                                     etc....
   Tbuti30.zip 131272 06-29-92 Description.....

Ok now we have edited all of our new Files.lst in each directory.
   ***************************************************************************
   Step # 8.
Now we must Add the File areas to TriBBS
Here is one of my examples.

File area description = FLI Animations.
   File area security = 10
   Private File area? = No
   Cd-Rom Area = YES
   File Area Path = I:\animate\FLI
File Area Upload Path = E:\files\upls
File Area File List = D:\animate\fli\files.lst
File Area Upload List = E:\files\upls\files.lst

In the above example TriBBS will look in D:\animate\fli\for the files.lst
and get Files.lst from d:\animate\fli and display it for the user.
But it will look for the actual file in I:\animate\fli\.
Then add the next File area.and the next!!!!!
